My name is Leyla Suleiman - I am a licensed English Language Arts (ELA) teacher with a master's in education. I was a high school English teacher from 2019-2022, when I decided to begin my PhD journey to explore the healing potential of literature and storytelling for Muslim, Somali, and other minoritized communities. I have been tutoring since 2015, working with students at variety of levels ranging from middle school to college.
In my free time I enjoy reading novels and biographies, sewing, playing rugby, and spending time in nature! I value building strong rapport with students and families I work with, so I look forward to hearing about your hobbies and interests.
My name is Kamal Suleiman and I am a 25 year old graduate of UPenn with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology (Class of 2022). I am currently working in mental healthcare at Fairview here in Minnesota while applying for my PhD in Clinical Psychology. As a high school student I graduated with highest honors (4.19 GPA) and received a score of 33 on the ACT (98th percentile). As a university student I excelled in high level psychology and statistics courses, and published 7 peer-reviewed academic research articles.
In my free time I enjoy watching films, listening to podcasts, playing video games, taking long walks, and going to the mosque. I love working with teenagers on their academic and personal success in a supportive and natural way.
My name is Ayann Abdulahi and I am a senior at the University of Minnesota studying to get my Bachelor’s degree in Developmental Psychology. I plan to graduate in the Spring and apply to graduate school to get my master’s. Outside of my academic commitments, I also work in behavioral therapy, focusing on children on the autism spectrum. I’ve had experience working with children for a few years now and am extremely passionate about their development and learning!
For fun, I love to read, go on long drives, play basketball, and spend quality time with my baby nephew while also overseeing his development. Additionally, I enjoy volunteering at local school community events to support child and family programs.
